Just in case someone is shopping for a drill press or band saw, here is what I got tonight from Lowes, who is closing out their Delta stock. Delta 16.5" drill press 1/2HP $255 plus tax new in box ($399 regular). Delta 14" band saw 3/4HP $279 plus tax new in box ($419 regular). I know that this is a stripped down model and not suitable for most professional luthiers (for re-saw), but I think its a good starter model and at this price could be sold used later to allow recoup of most of the purchase price. Since Lowes is closing these out, they will negotiate the price. I went to the manager and got 30% an already discounted price. I relate this in case someone is interested. Ed |

That's the band saw I've got in my shop. I don't re saw with it (obviously) but I use it alot. I changed the guides, and added a fence. I've got access to a "real" re saw for any re sawing I do. |

For a tight budget like mine - could I resaw with this maybe one or twice a year ? should beat and be safer than resawing on my circular saw. Capacity to cut stock up to 6-1/4" thick (12-1/4" with height attachment)---- is it the hp that is limiting ? |

Quote: is it the hp that is limiting ? With a sharp blade and good setup, you can resaw with 3/4 HP- just don't expect it to be fast and super accurate. The blade bogging and overheating is the big issue. Softer woods are obviously easier. |

Thanks Ed for the heads up on this !! I sold my air compressor and walked into Lowes and got the band saw for $249.00 - I didn't even consider a band saw till I saw your post! Thanks ! |
