So after looking for Meguiars 7 and 9 on my usual stops to the big box stores and a few other random places I needed to stop, I stopped at a auto store and they had #7, but no #9. The one guy out of five that knew a thing or two about Meguiars said I could use the Meguiars SwirlX instead. "Its essentially the same thing". Anyone know if thats an accurate statement? Is this alright to use in lieu if #9?

I should have waited and got both from Amazon for less money, no tax and free shipping.

The other statement he made to me was that Meguiars is discontinuing some of the older products, probably including 7 and 9, and replacing them with something newer (and more expensive).

Zach

I had the EXACT same problem when I was shopping for compounds. I ended up using the swirl-X as well, and it seems to work good - even on some french-polished surfaces. I will admit, I never got to use the 'numbered' Meguiar compounds because...I never saw them in stores. I've been using the swirl-x in combination with a turtle-wax compound I've got and I am satisfied with the results the Swirl-X gives.

BTW, I do all my buffing by hand, if that makes a difference to you.

Perhaps one the more seasoned veterans here can shed a little more light as to the difference between the number 9, and the swirl-x.

Here in the UK I phoned Meguiars about the same question and the numbered products are the professional range and the swirl x... are the home range he recommended swirl x and deep crystal system polish as there equivalents both seem to work fine but I can't compare having used the originals.

Try http://www.sparkleauto.com . I ordered some Meguiar's from them a couple years ago and it arrived very quickly and well-packed with a bonus bag of cookies.

I have noticed that my auto supply place carries this and doesn't carry the numbered product. Good to here this stuff works as well...Mike

as John from BluesCreek mentions, 3M products are great...

if there is an automotive paint store (NOT an automotive parts store) in your area they should have every polishing compound you could wish for in stock and then some...its there business to supply everything associated with painting and detailing autos and compound is certainly one of them
