Great looking guitar! I've always wanted to build a Panormo Copy. Something about them is pleasing to the eye, and I've heard one that, like you said, was really loud. Excellent work!

I’ve wanted to build a Panormo copy for years, and this was finally the year to do it. I use the term “copy” loosely, lest anyone get too picky over the details. Anyone interested in building one of these guitars will encounter very little in terms of technical information available, and I must say that researching the build has half the fun. The other half is playing it! It’s a fun guitar to play. Its plenty loud with lots of punch. No slouch, this one, even if it does use an archaic sort of fan bracing. It is a 630mm scale instrument. I forget the exact measurements of the body, I can measure them later. I used a pin bridge as close to the original as I could sleuth, but I did implement a separate saddle. Local Green Ash body, the back has a quarter matched center panel. The sides were bent in an embarrassingly easy way; wet them, wrap in foil, let sit for an hour, unwrap and hand bend cold, clamp in place with cauls, leave dry. Top is WRC that I salvaged from general lumber, neck is mahogany, fretboard and bridge is Rosewood, binding is flame maple. Tuners are base Rubners. |

doug, it's beautiful. very well done. i know almost nothing about this style of guitar, but i know that your execution looks excellent, and i admire the simple approach on bending the ash. phil |

Nice Job Doug!! I saw a Panormo double bass the other day, asking price $450K, almost a half a million smackers. |

Doug, that's as good a contemporary copy of a Panormo as I've seen, I like the take on the bridge. I've actually restored two Panormos, and they are great little guitars to play. Superb aesthetics and great execution, hats off to you Doug. Colin |

Very nice Doug! I especially like the bold purglings. I've been making Lacote copies with planetery tuners . Moustache bridges and 630-640 scale. I've used Curly or Quilted Maple for the body. Keep up the great work. Mike |

Thanks, everyone! I'll be trying to get some sound clips done over the holidays. I'll try and talk a friend into playing for me, he's a far better player than I am, and I'll try and figure how to record and post the clips. For me, it might be a greater challenge than building the guitar! |
