I think this is homebuilt #9...if not, it's somewhere around there! Sitka top with curly maple back and sides, indian RW fretboard and bridge, curly maple binding, and a blue marlin in black and white mother of pearl. I used to do a lot of watercolor painting and I think this really translates well to inlay design. I've really enjoyed doing this part of the guitars. The finish is hand polished EM6000....and now that I can say I've hand polished a couple guitars I'm going to run out and buy a buffer... ![]() Tonally it turned out very well - it's much warmer than most maple guitars I've played with pretty good volume and projection. I had a few friends play it today and came home with a few orders...so that was very rewarding as well. I still consider myself to be on the learning curve so I price them pretty reasonably...my friends have an opportunity to get a nice custom guitar and I'm able to keep building and keep improving. This one is for a friend who fished professionally for about 10 years in the tropics (what a shame...it must have been horrible). Best, Trev ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Spectacular, I love the figured back and the inlay work. Also, the rosette is clean and lovely. |

Thanks for all the compliments! A couple more tidbits about this one: ~The back actually has a cylindrical shape and not a spherical shape. I made a sanding "trough" with an 18' radius instead of the usual sanding bowl. I haven't noticed any aesthetic or tonal differences in building like this. It's something I tried awhile ago and just stuck with it. Eventually I'll probably switch to a more traditional spherical shape if for nothing more than I think I can sand the sides quicker this way. ~I used my CNC for the inlay work, the rosette tiles, the neck, and the braces (which were carved & sanding during tap tuning). I also have a ton of jigs that I've made with the CNC for everything from bridge location to a "chiseling jig" for those little BWB purfling parts that go around the rosette. ~Total woodworking time is about 40 hrs and I probably have about 15 hrs of finish time (including some respray, touch up, etc..). Thanks again for checking it out! Trev |
