I found this on a Brazilian forum of all places and thought I would share. How many forum members does it take to change a light bulb? 1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed 14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently 7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs 1 to move it to the Lighting section 2 to argue then move it to the Electricals section 7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs 5 to flame the spell checkers 3 to correct spelling/grammar flames 6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid 2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp" 15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct 19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum 11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum 36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty 7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs 4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's 3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group 13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too" 5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy 4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?" 13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs" 1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again. |

You have to admit we have it covered in all directions, from sea level to the mountains, in high and low voltage and 50 and 60 Hz. There probably should be a tutorial created for new members. Fred |

Good one Padma... And timely, since I spent the whole day making jigs! Mea Culpa. But hey... I built my lighbulb changing jig years ago... I do have thoughts on improving it, though. |

I bought a rosewood and brass light bulb changer from LMI years ago--a beautiful tool, perfectly balanced, and easy to use. This year I upgraded to a 3 hp Jet industrial light bulb changer. It's my most used tool. I have four light bulbs in my shop. I used to wait until they burned out before changing them. Now, as soon as they start to lose that "new light bulb sparkle" in the high violet frequencies, I swap them out. My problem: where do you buy uniform replacement bulbs? I Chladni test all my bulbs, and make adjustments wet sanding with 1200 grit near the base, but many bulbs are just unusable. Does everyone just buy the $25 Thomastik bulbs? How often do you change them? What's considered "adequate" light? |

Carbon filament incandescents are the best, especially if the metal parts are brass; you just can't get them anymore. Tungsten filament incandescents were ok, but they have been banned. You guys who insist on using flourescents- the least you could do is go back to 8-foot tubes and crank out some lumens.... sheesh! BTW- how many light bulb forums do you guys belong to? I'd just keep lurking, but then you wouldn't know it was me.... Chris |

Please post the light bulb changing jigs in the jigs section of the lighting section of the electrical section, and make note whether it pertains to mercury filled fluorescents or energy wasting incandescents. p.s.p.s. I think there is also a chance we may need subheaders or sub-forums for "Christian light bulb changing" and "non-Christian light bulb changing", as well as "Democrat light bulb changing" and "Republican light bulb changing." Lance and Brock, you may want to assign several new moderators to cover these sections to make sure it doesn't get overtly religious or political. |

Light bulbs are so passé. Here’s a couple of links to one of my LED bike lights that I built. These things are so bright and small. I tried LED's but they do not get hot enough so I switched the bulbs in my bender to CF. This way I save money while bending. |

So the Padma got tired of working in the dark and slipt into the local grow op store, scored me some of them 4 ft long skinny fluorescent tubes...told them me was growing tomatoes...nice and bright....now me sproutin hair on top of me head, so yes they work real gooder they do. Don't know how to change the bulbs yet...but then they ain't burned out like me.  blessings the Padma |

And everyone clearly knows that there is a significant difference in the quality between Adirondack Red Lightbulbs and Canadian White Lightbulbs.... Why.. Only fakers use those inferior Canadian White Lightbulbs in their shop! (Well, except me... I buy them extra cheap because no one else wants them... and no one can tell the difference anyway...)
