I have succesfully removed the FB and top from the Guild M20 I am fixing. Now wondering if a neck reset is necessary. It seems to me the whole geometry could easily be fixed without removing the neck by just pulling back on it a Hair and making sure the top is glued on in that position.almost in the same way its done on a classical solera This small pull does not put the body out of shape as it is so minute and may well even be returning the guitar to its original dimensions. Wondering if there are any reasons not to go that route? |

Are you replacing the top? ( I think I remember the guitar but that's all I remember) If the neck angle doesn't match the geometry of the top you'll need a shim under the fingerboard. I suppose you could make the top's geometry match the neck angle. Now I've confused myself.

New top means on the new bridge glue-up. The odds of the FB plane/top of bridge relationship being right is not very high. The odds are that you will have to reset the neck or at least plane the fretboard after attachment to achieve a good FB plane/top of bridge relationship. you and always put the new top on place the bridge in position lay the fretboard on the neck and check to se if the relationship is good or not and if not then you know you need a reset. if you do this test make sure the top of the neck and the bottom of the FB are cleaned free of any glue and that the FB is laying true flat on the neck. |

They used to use a method similar but where they shift the back not the top of the guitar. |
