I already started a thread about scale lengths but wanted to expand on it some. I want to put a 24.9" on a martin style dred. Mainly because I aready have a plan but its for 25.4" So what would I need to adjust to make it work correctly? |

Make sure the bridge plate will be underneath the bridge. I don't think you'll be have to move the X intersection much if at all... But that is it. As long as you place the bridge correctly and the bridge is over the plate, you are in good shape. I would suggest that you maybe try a J45 style bracing just to mix it up a bit. But then again, I am crazy for Gibsons. |

I've done that and it's very comfortable. What I did was to move the x-brace/bridge plate combo a little closer to the soundhole so that the relationship of the saddle to x-brace remained the same. Otherwise you'll be bringing the bridge/saddle closer to the x-brace intersection where it might be stiffer than ideal, especially on a short scale guitar with less string tension. I left the tone bars and all else where they would normally be. This may not be the ultimate approach but it worked for me, so much so that I'm building one to keep for myself. Cheers |

move the whole bracing pattern forward 1/4 inch .. you might have to move the soundhole forward too, depends how you do the end of the FB. |
