Post subject: | Purfling Design question |
Has anyone used fiber bwb purfling for the top/back purfling and veneer purflings for the side purflings (e.g., maple/black)? The reason I'm asking is because I have a number of Ebony and Bloodwood bindings with maple/black purfling lines and I also have a number of bwb fiber purfling strips. So I was wondering if those would go together well, or whether that would look a bit odd. Pictures would of course be appreciated ![]() thanks, Christian |

As a general rule, I wouldn't mix maple and white fibre, especially if there is curl or figure in the maple. Purfling lines are cheap, and even cheaper to make. |

I agree with Laurent, even the whitest maple is not as white as the fiber. Here is some old FB binding where I used both. I wouldn't do it again. FWIW, it doesn't look bad, as in really clashes, but it just looks better when they are the same. Attachment: fingerboard miters closeup.JPG
