Post subject:  Tuners for my J35-inspired build???

I am in love with the design of old Gibsons, but I made this one with some mods that I think add to the look of the classics (ebony headplate/board/bridge/binding, quilted mahonany back and sides, modified Martin-Gibson hybrid scalloped braces, wood fiber rosette, no fingerboard dots, etc). I am finally to the recently coined "that moment" where I can put all of the pieces together and am rethinking my choice of Grover Sta-Tites with butterbeans... I wish Waverlies with ebony weren't so expensive. So what do you think? Stick with the Grovers, get some brand of nickel with oval buttons, get Waverlies with ebony?

If waverlies are too much, get a set of Gotohs with ebony/ebonoid buttons .... you wont be disappointed.

Thanks Todd. I have seen Chris Paulick's tutorial on YouTube for removing the buttons. Will the StewMac buttons fit out of the box or will I need to modify them?

Gotoh has a number of button options onthe 510/700 series .. most suppliers dont carry them, only the most popular ones . Usually I custom order to get what I want...

Thanks for the help, guys!

I should note that the bridge, neck, and pickguard are still loose, so they look a little crooked. I will be drilling for tuners tonight or tomorrow and will get this thing glued up this weekend!!!

I think I will stick with the Grover Sta-Tites that I already have and maybe remove the buttons later on...

I would use grover 102's , that was one of the many tuners used on martins.
