I am looking for information on Hormigo. I see a couple of posts but not a lot of information about it. I also see that RC Tonewoods sells this wood. Has anyone used it? Is it easy or difficult to work? Let me know if you have any input.

Thanks
Ken

Hi Ken,
no hands-on experience here (yet), but I received my Hormigo back/side set a few weeks ago from Bob. Looks gorgeous and has a great tap tone.
From my research, I think it's in the same family (species, genus, whatever) as Granadillo. From what I've read, Hormigo is the 'original' Marimba bar wood. While Honduran Rosewood and Granadillo are also used for Marimba bars, it seems that Hormigo is the real thing. The story that Hond. Rosewood is the original Marimba bar wood comes from a translation error.

Note that my research was done on the internet and as such has to be taken with a grain of salt... but the tap tone is really great.

cheers, Christian
