Here's what happens when you let the client design the inlay. It probably didn't appear to be difficult to him when sketching with a pencil. But it took me about two months to complete. |

Wow Barry! Beautifully done. Your client should be pretty happy with that. Cheers, Danny |

Wow! I think that exceeds birdseye. Maybe we need a new catagory. Moon scape maple? |

Beautiful inlay Barry. I'm doing my first inlay now. What materials did you use in this inlay, and how do you obtain such crisp lettering? Thanks. |

Chris, you amazed me with that. Good memory. Dave, I actually cheated on the lettering. I laid a decal with the words printed on the computer over the MOP. My engraving skills are not up to lettering. The inlay from the top down was MOP banner, quilted maple veneer cloud, MOP Snowy Egret with brass beak, trees from several types of wood veneer, and simulated water using crotch figured mahogany veneer. The shape was taken from an old Gretsch and shrunk down to a lower bout width of 15". The back and sides were laminated and the top was carved from solid sitka. The sides of the guitar were 1-1/2" wide and there is a 3/4 length solid block tying the top to the back. I made this about 3 years ago. I want to make one for myself someday as it was a very comfortable guitar to play. Thanks for the comments guys! |

Hey Barry, how many of those have you done? Seems like we saw one at the OLF get together on a different guitar? Anyway, NO--it's NOT overkill. It's great. Steve |
