Hi all, As a bit of a project for my father in law, I am refinishing and setting up an old 12 string guitar with a laminated spruce top. In taking off the plastic covering and "naked lady" graphic (yup, that's right), I sanded off a good amount of the laminate. I want to color the top so that the laminate underneath does not show through, and would like some advice on how to finish/cover it. Sorry, but I got the project started prior to taking a picture of the gal on the top, so don't ask!! ![]() thanks in advance, Dave |

What do you mean by laminated top? And why to hide it? ...you know, all tops are laminated. |

Dave- If you have sanded through the top (spruce) layer, it will be pretty hard to 'hide'. Also, I'd be a bit concerned with the change in strength of the top, though most of those plywood guitars were 'overbuilt' ![]() Hope this doesn't cause family problems for you!! (ie hope you have a tolerant father-in-law). Cheers John |

Hmmm, thanks for the reply guys. Looks like I may have to wing it, or put the naked lady back on. Now, where was that naked lady decal website?? ![]() Happy Thanksgiving to all, Dave |

Dave- Another possibility would be to put the guitar aside for a year or two, and come back to a 'rebuild' when you feel competent to replace the top. Or you could make one of those funky Nashville-style leather covers for the whole guitar body! Cheers John |
