Hello, I am about to finish my first classical guitar. I have used only hand tools. With my next I would like to speed up some processes . For that I borrowed an old stanley router from a friend. It works well but needs some spare parts. I tried to find them on internet without success. Can anybody help me out? Here is a picture: ![]() In case I don't find the spare parts, I will have to buy a new one. I don't have any experience with routers so I don't know exactly what would be most appropriate: A plunge router or a laminate trimmer?. It would be used for routing the head slots, bridge slots and the channel bindings and purflings. Thank you Antonio |

I use a Dewalt laminate trimmer.Find that if there is no heavy duty work such as a neck joint,it is more than adequate and much easier to handle and maneuver especially for binding work. |

Here's a link to a recon dewalt laminate trimmer. Seems reasonable if you are looking for low-cost way to do this. http://www.cpopowertools.com/products/d26670r.html?ref=googaw&kw=%7Bkeyword%7D&gclid=CP3G6djg_J0CFQohDQodWyfUoA&keyword=dewaltd26670r&sissr=1 |

Some of the newer Dewalts are actually Porter cables ... with yellow housing .. the base plate is identical .. not surprising, as Delta owns them all. |

I thought they were all owned, including Delta, by Black and Decker, who was just bought out by Stanley! ![]() |

Thank you all for your answers. I am considering a Bosch, a Makita or a Dewalt. I think I will go for a Dewalt . One more question: Online-shops usually don't give a detailed description of the tool. They don't mention depth setting with fine adjustment. And what about the base: is there a way I can adapt a jig for routing the bindings channels ? Thank you in advance Antonio |

Hi Antonio, I agree that I laminate trimmer is the most useful tool for our purposes. Whatever you do, be sure to buy a tool that is rated for the voltage in your country: if you are in Portuagal I assume it in 230 V. You can still buy and use use tools from the US that run on 110 V if you have a 230/110 V stepdown transformer (I do). Binding jigs come in many shapes and forms, and if you make you own you can make it so it fits you trimmer. Look up the archives here for ideas on how to one. |

I have found the instructions for both the Bosch and Dewalt. They seem to have more or less the same features: http://www.bosch-pt.com.pt/boptocs2-pt/modules/oragetblob.dll/44355.pdf?db=boptocs&item=OCSHEIMWPDF.m$d$lobvalues&id=44355,4389,39&filename=GKF600.pdf http://service.blackanddecker.at/PDMSDocuments/EU/Docs//docpdf/dw670_eur.pdf Has anyone tried both ? |
