Moved it myself (with help) 3 times. Swear if I do it again I'll hire someone but I've got the same problem as Chris

How many of you guys have had the misfortune of having to move your shop? I'm about to move and I was wondering if any of you have any experience with moving companies. I've moved my shop myself twice now and I haven't the strength to do it again. I'm on the fence about using one general moving company for all of our stuff (house and shop) versus getting a more specialized company (in industrial equipment) for moving the shop. Jason |

I just did this very thing...and I hated every living second of it. It was like moving another house. But I am my own worst enemy. While I could afford to have someone else do it for me....my personality couldn't afford the worry. I don't know what to tell you. If you do decide to have someone else move things for you...YOU spend the time prior to the move to pack and tighten everything up. That includes, atleast for my brain, crating or palleting all the machinery and boxing everything else. That's your insurance. Chris |

I'm truly unthrilled by the idea of some lug heads throwing my machinery around but I have no desire to move my 15" planer again. That thing has some serious girth. I'm just thinking that hiring a company that specializes in moving industrial equipment might be better than using one of the house movers (that would probably see it as one big garage). Jason |

When I moved to Montana from far away the moving company rep and I looked closely at my machinery. We noted any issues IN WRITING before the move. After the move the movers on that end inspected with me again and IN WRITING I declared I was satisfied. If I had not been happy and or there was damage, insurance would have covered it. I have heard about moving nightmares but the moving company I used was professional in every way. I cannot remember the company but it was one of the major national outfits. I would never even consider moving again without a moving company. The worries are the same but the back muscles never even twitch! You also get to point and say "put that here, put that there" etc... You should be able to get a free moving quote and you can discuss your concerns with the moving rep at that time. Shop around as well. Good Luck. |

If all you need is the muscle then perhaps a local scout trip could give you a hand. You put some money in their pockets and they help you move the heavy stuff. |

industrial movers get major bucks usally and most might not even consider a small shop , however only cost a phone call. |
