Well, I ordered some pre-slotted fret boards from LMI. These are for an OLF SJ Manzer Wedge that I'm building. Somewhere in the process the scale length changed from the 25.4" that I wanted to 24.5". This is probably my fault not LMI's. So, I'm wondering if I should just order new fret boards or try to adjust to the very short scale. I haven't layed out the bracing yet so I'm pretty sure I could make the bridge and bracing work. Some PRS electrics and some Gretsch guitars have this short of a scale but electric guitars are a completely different animal than acoustics. One of the reasons that I'm doing a Manzer wedge is because I want this guitar to be comfortable to play and I considered using a 24.9 scale but decided to go with the scale length in the plans. But with both the wedge and the short scale it might make a real nice ladies guitar. Oh well, life has given me lemons and I wonder if I should make lemonade. It might be hard to drive the guitar with this short of a scale but I could brace it for medium/heavy gauge strings. Perhaps I should just order new boards and save these for an octive mandolin. |

Mike, if the fretboard is the only thing that is out of sync from your plans, id just get another fretboard. Send me one and ill slot it for ya for free. ![]() |

I'd order another F/B. The feel and sound of a .9" shorter scale may be significant, and while you could adjust the guages of the strings, you may not like what you end up with. I've used 24.9" scales, but 24.5 is pretty short. |

If you are convinced that the shorter one is something that you would like, use it. If you are not convinced of the above, don't use it. |
