Hello All,
Would like some opinions here. I am planning a flamenco Blanca build and was either going to use spanish or monterrey cypress B&S. I was wondering what kind of spruce top to use for same; European, Englemen..? The Englemen is certainly a lower cost alternative compared to German but I want to make sure that the top does not have to be too thick. I want the authentic flamenco growl, rasp & volume. I will be using a 1932 Esteso plan. My friend owns one and is letting me borrow same so I can put it in Autocad and play it a wee bit..LOL. Have only done two flamenco negras with German spruce tops & EIR B&S. Also, any flamenco builders out there notice and difference in sound or weight between Spanish Cypress, and Mexican Cypress ? Thanks again for the help!

You can get a perfectly wonderful flamenco guitar using only American species - as long as you work them right. It's all in the actual piece of wood. I guess you need to search for some heavier Engelman if you want a thin top...

For the top I use the lightest & stiffest ones for Flamencos.
Usually Lutz or Euro.
The B & S can be any wood .
But the Monterey Cypress is is great!

I generally use Spanish cypress and German spruce. But,I made a guitar for Sabicas in 1967 with a Brazilian back, and German top.

Really, Please tell me more... Sabicas in my humble opinion was the cleanest, best flamenco guitarist ever!
