Oh well ![]() I've only built two so far, so not much to post ![]() Both could be improved in the fit/finish department, but the wood is pretty nice. My No. 1: Redwood/Claro Walnut Nylon ![]() My No. 2: Bearclaw Sitka/Bubinga OM ![]() ![]() The left side of the back looks kind of dull in the image - no idea how my living room lighting and camera produced that. cheers, Christian |

Those are some spectacular Guitars... Well... I will post some inspiration for others... My Retopped Esteban! It is more the sort of inspiration for Others... I feel like I can help others in the same vein as Chris Farley's "In a VAN down beside the river!" inspirational speaking... Hopefully, this will help all of the rest of you to say "Wow John, You are Right... My guitar really is beautiful! I should post it on Lance's thread!" Well... maybe Lance will take pitty on me... see, I really NEED some pretty wood to build a Guitar out of... Here's the Back -- Note all the finish that is missing.... This is why you never finish the Top while laying the Back on an old cement table Attachment: Esteban 001.jpg Here's the neck joint... where I had to saw the neck off of the body to reset it... I found some Minwax wipe on Poly that *Kinda* matched... but it wouldn't stick to the back. Attachment: Esteban 002.jpg My top was quite a bit thinner than the Plywood that originally lived here... Here's where I had to shim up the fretboard with 1/32" plywood... Attachment: Esteban 007.jpg And my fine Finish job... where I carefully scraped the finish away before gluing the bridge... There definately isn't any finish up under that bridge... I made sure I left plenty of room.. Oh, by the way... Rosewood dust is pretty dark against that Spruce... Attachment: Esteban 008.jpg and the Bindings... There were a couple little gaps here and there... Minor stuff.... Bondo does a pretty good job at making those gaps "Seamless" Attachment: Esteban 010.jpg I couldn't get the pix of dog hairs to come out... so you will just have to take my word on them.... or ask the folks who came out to Jimmy Hall's SC get together... Now... Come on and post your Guitars! Thanks John |

Lance Kragenbrink wrote: Lets see your VERY BEST work. IT might serve as inspiration for all of us! Im not going to go first, but instead wait and see Well Lance, Sounds like you want some form of "Eye Candy" But me not sure of the flavour and then well we should also get a deffinition for "Best" especially for those of us whos work falls into several different catagories and hence the definition of "best" changes. Non the less... I have chosen several "bests", one from each of the various catagories I build in. But I will only post one every few days or so. This wood be in the "home build" back hills camp. I chose it first as well it sure do pop some eyeballs and apparently has inspired many to "think out of the box." I't me Oval Aluminium Roasting Pan Reso. Ya you read it right. ![]() ![]() Been a lotta beasts cooked and offered up in that roaster...how appropriate it is now used to offer up song. Used a disposable aluminum pie plate for the cone and a regular pie plate for the cover plated. Note the 3 different tuners...just for fun. blessings the Padma |

Ok....Call me dense....but I tried to do the luthier twitter thing and got all the way to create account button and it tells me my email address is already taken. No Kidding! I don't want another email address account to do this. I already have a personal and a business email account. This is nuts. I guess I will just miss out on the cool luthier stuff posted on twitter. This one came out pretty good on the looks but I am most happy with the sound. It was an experiment so I am keeping it and playing it a lot! Very exciting! Attachment: cl-compressed.jpg sorry about the dust here.. Attachment: cl13-headstock.jpg Attachment: cl13-brz-bridge.jpg

Lance Kragenbrink wrote: OK Folks, If you make it and it can me played! POST IT! Ok Chris... May the Padma assure you... me made it and ya, it can be played... I play it more than any other instrument in me shop...if fact, its AWAYS being played. Why Always? cuz its "the Bench" ![]() The Bench vibrates in sympathetic harmony to and with any sounds in the room but more so to what ever vibrations enter the bench top from me playing luthier on it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() features of "the Bench" - 7 strings and can be tuned to any key - is my largest instrument...measures 2 x 3 x 5 1/2 feets - top, carcas, carved drawer fronts, solid Doug Fir... ribs (sides) and drawers g1s Doug Fir. - has 12 drawers with hand carved drawer fronts (for my hand tools of course) that match the carved theme running throughout my whole shop. - easy to play as it will resonate in sympathetic harmony to any sounds in the room but more so to what ever vibrations enter the table from me playing "the luthier" on it. Or any other game for that matter. ![]() see pic of "the Benches" 7 tuners ![]() see pic of strings running just under the top. Advantages of such an instrument....well think about it dudes. Seriously think about the central "alter" of you shop having the ability to "talk back at you in sonics" what ever is going down around it and in the shop while you working. Hmm....yes dude...there is a heck of a lot more to luthierisem than just getting the frets in the "right" place or the thickness of the ribs to match the number on some drawing. May I assure you all that no bondo was used in its construction. However the Padma will confess to using an old cabinet makers trick of "tuning" some bailing wire to get the carcas squaired up...but is ok...me fed two birds with one seed...I tuned the bailing wire to low E. You dudes have enough of me insanity yet? Because me just getting warmed up here. Next post in this eye candy thread gonna be a 5 string Kootney Mtn Ducimer with sculpted fret board, and highly carved headstock, pic guard and back with pearlessent airbrush paint job...but you gonna hafta wait till after turky week end which is going down now in Canada. blessings the Padma |

Aw...comeon Dave, this ain't a contest...is about you in communion with yourself making sawdust. Well at least it is for me. Now me ain't never gonna have the fit and finish skills like some of the "Official Professional Luthiers" on this site. But that ain't gonna stop me from buildin n postin pics of my madness. I trully hold forth for the day when the consciousness of this planet evolves beyond "whos best" and the " I won" mentality cuz when they be thow the dirt on yer coffin...and you finally gotta deal with eternity...it just don't matter. Well is my thinking. And ya Peter, him do nice work eh! blessings the Padma |

Hey Padma, you rock! I really like your bench. Some of my German friends here in Wisconsin play alot of zither music. They would have a field day with their zithers on your bench. Most zither players usually utilize a hardwood table or bench to help amplify their instruments. I am not a zither player, guitar is hard enough but I think the 42 strings on a zither and your bench would be out of hand! Thanks for sharing! |

I am not a zither player, guitar is hard enough but I think the 42 strings on a zither and your bench would be out of hand! Thanks for sharing! Hard to imagin but apparently guitars by there very nature are extreemly inefficiant transmiters of sonics...as only about 6% of the strings energy is actulay converted to sound. Tables, kitchen cabinets, wooden chests, china cabinets, doors to closets...now were talking sound amplification. In fact the bigger the box the better. As a kid I use to rest the headstock of me Jazz bass against my cloths closet door to tune it and practice cuz the amp had to be off after 10 pm. Zithers eh...one these days me gonna build one of them suckers. Been thinking of streaching some strings up on the roof with an air foil to move the wind accross the strings... and let the attic become the sound box...thats right ...turn the whole house into one big Aeolian Harp. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aeolian_harp Now woodn't that be a trip eh! Ya, I know, me crazie...but me ain't stupid. ![]() blessings the Padma |
