Use them frequently. They work and work well, they are a simple tool so that shouldn't come as a surprise. Just use the reamer that you have to form the tapered hole in your shaper and you will have a pretty good match. Depending on how much wood you need to remove (on the peg) you may need to make a few shapers. |

I'd be grateful to see a picture of a home made one. My kid broke one a while back. I won't go into my crude approach to shaping a new one, but it worked fine. Thanks, Danny |

Not a lot to see really. The important bit is to place the edge of the cutting blade above the centre line of the reamer - around about the 2 'o' clock position. The length of the cutter (the cutting edge) should also follow the taper of the reamer. Even though I have the brass shapers I use the wooden homemade type. In use the blade is clamped with a through bolt. large washer and wing nut. ![]() |

hey thanks for showing i would love to see a peg shaving tutorial from the bone to the bridge how do you guys roughly shape your pegs ? off the bone or chucked into a drill press i was often thinking of making one but wanted to see one first and get a tip or two what about an adjustable blade by thumbscrew for getting the final shape (would it save time) or do you just feed the bone into the tool with a drill ? thanks tomas |

Its just like a big fancy pencil sharpener! ![]() You should turn your pegs on a lathe first, but I am using storebought. |

It might be helpful to some who may not know, that if you sharpen your cutters to a steep angle,so that they scrape, rather than trying to cut into the wood, the peg shaper will work infinitely better. It will do very smooth work. |

Anyone have any thoughts about DIY reamers? I need to ream some peg holes, only 6 string pegs and 6 tuning pegs, not nearly enough to justify the cost of "proper" reamers. |

Ebay guy has some old 'guitar reamers', he seems to have a ton of them last time I looked, 10 bucks or so. |
