I have been thinking about shifting from FP to spraying and Todd's comment in the post on HVLP conversion guns got me thinking about a trubine HVLP system instead of the Sata mini-jet that I was planning to use. The turbine systems seem to be rather noisy, but the simplicity of just picking it up and taking it outside to spray is appealing. Are there other advantages to using the turbine HVLP? Any recommendations ?

Alan,

There are lots of reasons for doing HVLP Turbine, but I don't thinking going outside is an exclusive one since my 50 ft hose reaches way outdoors. :)

As to the noise, Fuji makes a series with a Q appended toits name, Stands for quiet. Costs a little more, but seems to make a difference.

Can't speak to the comparision issue. I have used a Wagner 3 turbine for about 7 years and works great. I had to and still do if change what spraying adjust it for what want. Mine has 25' hose and have it in a closet in garage and not much of an issue for me. I bought 2 of them from a guy who was spraying tans on folks and they were a little strong so he changed out to another type of unit. I have done quite a few guitars on it with lacquer and waterborn and shellac never an issue. Comes out a little heated so have get good flow and little overspray(or whatever the term is)

Thanks Todd, I was hoping that you would respond.

That being the case, it sounds like it would not be worth the extra $$$$ for the Q version. Would the Mini-Mite 4 be your recommendation for someone buying a turbine HVLP now?

Alan, the retail for these items is kind of high, but if you watch the classifieds on several forums, they do come up for sale at good prices. If you are not in a hurry, you might be able to save money.

Thanks Mike.

It appears that the going price for a new Fuji Mini-Mite 4 is $599. I've seen a couple of places that provide either the siphon or gravity feed gun for the same price. I think that the gravity feed might be a better choice, but it does have a small cup (400 ml).

I'll try to keep a look out on some of the forums. If you happen to spot one at a good price, perhaps you could send a PM.
