Post subject:  How much wood under double acting truss rod?

Question: Wondering how little wood can be left under the channel of a double-acting truss rod (from LMI) and the back of the neck (mahogany) before things get too thin and dicey? I would like to shape my next neck a bit thinner (keeping the same thickness fingerboard) but I don't know how thin is too thin....

Thanks, Peter Z

I had the same problem on a telecaster neck with a stewmac hotrod. It was one piece maple with the rod only around 1/8" from the fingerboard and once shaped the skunk stripe was not thick enough to take the weight of barely any force from the rod.

An eighth of an inch is the minimum.
