This looks like a golden opportunity to closely examine and maybe even quantify the tonal differences between cedar and spruce. They look like twins in every respect except top woods. Please keep them around long enough to really put your finger on the differences. Inquiring minds want to know........ Mikey

Yes I agree, they were build side by side and are made from the same bracing stock, same neck stock and the coco although not from the same board, its very close in density. As much as I'd love to have them stay with me for a while, my customer has been waiting patiently and I plan to ship these just as soon as the strings are on. Maybe hold them for a day or two to let them settle a little under string tension.

There's a couple of beauties. Great looking Coco. Looking forward to hearing your comparison of the two.

Cheers,

So that's what you've been up to when not answering PMs! hahahahahhaha Sorry, I have a warped sense of humor.

As these twin sons of different mothers roll off your bench, I am curious about what percentage of guitars you build with a cutaway. Is it rare to be asked to included a cutaway? When you build a 'spec' guitar, do you lean toward including a cutaway, or not. Just curious.

Hats off to you Lance, those two are fabulous looking sisters!

Thanks, Andrew

Hi Dennis, ya know I just never get asked to do a cutaway. I have done a few and I have two coming up but in general, its non cutaways for me. I dont mind doing them, and I think for my next "show guitar" batch they will all be cutaways.

Tony, what can I say, I have to admit, I walked in to work Monday morning feeling like
a million bucks! [:Y:] Its just one win, I keep telling my self!

Lance, beautiful woods, beautiful guitars, beautiful finishes. Are those brazilian fingerboards? You must be proud. I sure would like to see more also. [clap] [clap] [clap]

Beautiful work Lance. [clap] It'd be awesome to hear recordings of both to compare.

The Coco with the cutaway I'm currently building has an Engelmann top and will have the Curly Mahogany neck I got from Peter M.

There's no money past the 12th fret!

(Quoting Steve Earl...)

The coco just glows. Amazingly beautiful, Lance.

Very nice!

You should post sound clips of both of them so we can hear the difference between the two tops since they were made at the same time and same size and back.

Your client will be thrilled with those beauties.
Coco looks so good with a finish.

keep up the good work !

Beautiful guitars, Lance. Nice job. Maybe you can get your client to A/B them for you. It would be an interesting listen.

Beautyful looking guitars, Lance [:Y:] [:Y:] [:Y:] What especially blows me away as a beginner is the fact that they really look like twins - except the top color. I hope one day I'll achieve similar results in terms of repeatability...

Looking at the Cocobolo makes me wonder why you haven't placed the highest bid for the set from the auction :D

cheers, Christian

Thanks Guys

Christian,

Andrew from Hibdon Hardwood hooked me up with the "twin coco sets" by request, my buddy Stephen Ziegenfuss cut a board of coco in to twin book matched fretboards and I cut two bridges from a single hung of coco so they match as well. The Headstock overlays were also sliced off the same piece. The rosettes are both Paua with a single koa purf, and the bindings are matching brazilian. I used b/koa/b for the side purflings as well.

They are both going to the same customer. I hope he likes them ;)

By the way, your package shipped today [:Y:]
