I have an opportuity to use some old Chestnut that was taken out of a house (siding and trim) which may be just right for sides and a three piece back.

Does anyone have any information on how this might work as a tonewood? Looks like it's not particularly hard (pretty soft, actually, with a Janka of 530). Thanks.

It would work but its not really and attractive wood for guitar building. Very open pore like oak and similar looking.

Hey Corky! How ya doing!
I'll be watching this thread. I have some 100 year+ Chestnut floor boards I rescued from a demolition. I did my Galley Kitchen with them and have a few left over. If you go for it let me see the progress please!

Thanks, MRS.
Hey John - How's it going?

What have you been up to? Building anything? That was a great time in East Stoudsburg - I'm still in withdrawal.

What was it like to work with on your kitchen? Splintery or not? Hard/soft? What does it look like? Large pores, as per MRS comment?

Thanks, John. Talk to you soon.

It did splinter pretty easy. But it was as dried out as it gets. I really only did a few cross cuts so I can't judge the workability
I have been at it on the building. But, slow and a touch frustraiting. Here are some photo's of where I am at.

Great pics, John. Looks like you're having a lot of fun with various applications of design theory. I'm in the same boat. I also am working on reducing variability between builds - I really feel like I need to get some better jigs, processes in place to get my quality up, through consistency rather than by mistake. That's the goal anyway.

I got Guitarmaker - great pictures!

Talk to you soon.
