I know, I know, I had a goal of finishing these before summer's end but I failed. Here it is Fall and we're facing a winter storm warning for tonight here in N Colorado. I'm shootin for 3 outta 4 by Fall's end now.

Here's some recent work...I've been so busy with "digital luthiery" that I haven't had much time to do the real thing! I designed the blue marlin inlay in Rhino and cut it out using my K2 CNC machine. The inlay is Black MOP and White MOP in an Indian Rosewood fingerboard. This one is for a friend who spent about 10 years of his life fishing (yeah...sounds like a tough way to go, I know..!)

My bench is a mess, so I had to pull the MadRose OM off to a chair for a picture!! Just got it bound and need to finish scraping the bindings--the back and one side is done, thus the angle of the picture  Parser--Love the maple--Going to be nice! Ken Attachment: MRBound.jpg

I have 10 guitars on my bench at the moment. My favorite is a Billy Gibons model Bigsby for Laura Pleasents of the Stoner Death Metal Band Kylesa. She will be featured in Spin Magazine in Dec. |

Right now lots of zoot, I have been going through my stash getting ready to chose what sets I will use in my next builds. My plans at this time are a 12 fret 000, a Manzer style OM wedge and a D size. My wood will probably be EIR for 000, Cocobolo for the wedge and madagascar for the Dreadnought, though every time I look through the stack my ideas change, I have some African Mahogany and a couple Bubinga sets that could move into the mix. It was so much easier when all I had was EIR but the other sets keep accumulating. Fred |

I have a Mad Rose/Adi OM that I'm about ready to put the frets on (just as soon as I quit wrestling with a 14th fret hump). Also have a Big Sur redwood top that I just finished putting the rosette in. It was pretty much of a mess when I left it tonight. |

This year I have basically doubled my entire previous output of guitars. Not exactly sure of how that happened. First photo is of what is occupying most of my guitar shop. Actually, it supposed to be the other way around, the guitars are invading the canoe shop, as that is how I earn my living. Spent most of the last week stripping out the varnish on 4 old canoes; I was taking advantage of the good weather so that i could work outdoors. I hate stripping these during the winter, the fumes are just so nasty. I have 3 Torres SE117s waiting for the humidity to drop so that I can make, fit, and attach the bridges. I have a Panormo copy at the same stage, and I have been working on something that has been running around in my head like an ADHD 7 year old-at some point you just can't ignore the commotion! It's a double cutaway, Fleta plantilla based, Vicente Arias braced, elevated fingerboard with an adjustable neck, etc. I'll show more pictures when I post about them. Oh, and my first electric guitar, a wine red, curly maple telecaster, using a hoe made brass bridge plate and control cover. While I was at it, I made 9 more brass bridge plate, and 10 in Stainless, 8 more necks, and I've got wood prepared and drying for about 10 more bodies. So I guess I'll be building a few more Teles. |

Wow, Some great looking guitars and projects folks. (Too many to respond to after this long but they all look great) Pat, that is stunning!!! I agree with Waddy we've got a lot of industrious folks in here. If yer bench is clear, get back out there and mess it up. At least it'll look like there's something going on out there. Filippo, I remember building model rockets with my dad eons ago when I was a boy. It was a blast, literally.  Douglas, my dad and my uncle built a redwood strip canoe (laker size) when I was a boy. I bought a book on building canoes years ago when I started my fine wood furniture business with the intention of building one in my "spare time".  Get it, "spare time".  On a different note, I'll post some more detailed pics of each of these as I finish them.

I don't have any pictures yet, but I guess my answer is more to "What's my bench on?" I just moved into a new house that has about 800 sq feet of shop space. A lot of work to be done yet, but I'll get pics of progress. Needs electrical, insulation and drywall. I'm planning a small humidity controlled build/storage room. Pretty excited. So no guitar building for a bit, though I was hoping to get number 2 finished...it's going to have to wait. It never ceases to amaze me the beautiful work the guys around here do. Darrin |

I've been painting the neighbor's trailor while this has been sitting on the bench. Bracing the top is next. The African blackwood to the left will be the fret board and the strip to the right will be the bridge and head veneer. |
