![]() 39 lbs/cubic foot or 7.4 lbs/bf right now, but I have no idea how dry it is yet. 9-1/4" wide and perfectly quartersawn with not much runout - 5' plank @ 1-3/4" thick for $25 at my local woodpile. Is it what I think it is? (I can guess but I'll leave it to the experts) The color in the photo is pretty accurate - and it does not smell like cedar. |

From here on my laptop, it looks like Doug Fir. |

I have to disagree with the others. Unless the color is a bit off I would say its Fir.... ![]() |

Drat - I was hoping I had lucked onto a rouge slab of Adi, I have two Adi tops with grain that looks just like this with the same color but are significantly lighter in shade (and less dense). But the density is closer to Doug Fir than Adi - in any case was too good a price to pass up, even if it was destined to be bracewood. ![]() I will resaw some tops out of this and set aside some billets for body & neck blanks too. Any particular advice about working with Doug Fir? |

Watch yourself hand sanding. It splinters very easily. You can take on some really big ones. |

Thanks - I've been working with wenge for the past few weeks, so the hand training is starting to sink in... |

whatever it is, build with it. Let us know how it sounds. I've been using fir for a while and enjoy working with it and the tonal results are nice as well. d |
