Post subject:  Tortoise Binding as Purfling?

Has anyone used a piece of tortoise binding that has been cut down for purfling on the top? I thought that it might look good... or would it be tacky...? Sometimes its hard to know if an idea is a good one...

steve I have on seveal. Used bwb on each side, then same configuration for the rosette and butt wedge. I have on one used it with maple/ebony purf on each side of it and then used tortise binding along with the tortise purf as noted. I have used it with coco, snakewood, eir and koa binding also.

I have done it, it looks cool. I find it works best if you keep the thickness as small as possible without sanding through. It let's more light reflect through it.

And for "bonus bling" try backing it up with either gold or siver leaf. Makes even more reflection and the gold, especially, adds a warmth to the tortoisoid.
