This was the first I have used flamed maple. I really like it, but loved it even more after I saw what Joe White did with the color and finish. The spalted maple I used for the rosette is from Steve Wheeler - thanks Steve! Thanks too to Doug Mills for showing me how he does his radial rosettes. And thanks Joe for another flawless finish! Just beautiful John.... great work !! The flame is outstanding and the spalted Maple rosette really sets it off. It appears that Joe used some amber tone in finishing the top... it really looks warm and goes well with the body. Nice... |

I was wondering when you were going to show that off. Sure looks nice. I bet it sounds a bit livelier than the OSB guitars. And thanks for taking the picture in that room. My wife said "What do you mean he made a quilt out of hardwood for his floor?". Now I can show her. Steve |

That is a knockout, John. I love the Maple and the rosette is a winner. Is the neck cherry? I like how the neck figure parallels the maple flame. Wow! |

That's a beautiful guitar John, goes well with that beautiful inlayed floor. Outstanding! I bet that was a project. I had to do a double take to see if that was a rug. |

Ken Bending the cutaway flamed maple was a test of patience, holding my breath - whatever you do when you are scared. I just made sure I took my time - I probably took about 6-8 minutes before I had the caul seated in the bender. I did try supersoft on a set - but it stained the maple - pretty ugly. I also sanded the cutaway part to .070 while the rest of the side was sanded to about .080 |
