I installed a set of Spanish cedar reverse kerfed linings (the first time I've used them) in the Hauser derivative guitar that I'm currently building, however, the gluing-in did not go as smoothly as I'd have liked. I spent time to pre-bend (pre-snap, I guess) the linings carefully, so that they'd go in in one piece, then used a small brush to spread LMI glue on the back of the linings and then offered them up to the sides and pegged them in place using Harbor Freight plastic clips. However, it was very hard to control the loose end of the work, and since it had glue on one side, it made a bit of mess that I had to clean up after I got the linings in place. Also, because of the pre-glued loose end flopping about, I had a couple of breakages as I was putting them in. Not hard to fix and make relatively invisible, but again, not as clean as I would have liked. There has to be a better way to do this. Any ideas? How do you guys glue in your reverse kerfed linings in one piece and not get glue mess everywhere? I thought about masking the inside of the guitar side off and then putting the glue on there instead, but I'm not sure if that's a better solution. What do you guys think? Cheers, Dave F. |

Can't help you with the glue mess situation, I am not very good with that either. My last guitar was the first I managed not to brek the reverse kerfed lining in (and it was a weissenborn with tight curves) Put the lining in the laundry tub with HOT water and soak for 5 minutes. Clamp to the OUTSIDE of the rim edge with the kerfs facing out and leave to dry. This way the glueing surface dries quicker. |

not an expert, but i pre-bend and only apply glue to a short section at a time. you can wipe up any squeeze out with a damp rag as you go. |

Here is how I do it. viewtopic.php?f=10101&t=23405&p=319645 If im installing them in a real tight waist. Ill soak them in water in the bath tub for a few minutes first. No need for heat or prebending. |
