Post subject:  Nitro Over Z-Poxy
A while back there was a question about Nitro over Z-Poxy. We have discussed the "fuzzyness" that has happened to some with Tru-Oil over Z-Poxy. I just had a guitar come back that I pore filled with Z-Poxy and left the usual light 50-50 wash of the stuff for color/grain popping. It wound up getting sent to Addam Stark for nitro and he did a perfect job.
Now two years later the neck is getting fuzzy and breaking down a little. Body is still OK. Feels just like the Tru-Oil necks I saw. This is all anecdotal but something's going on.

Does not really show up in a photo but it's a roughness and breakdown of the finish similar to what I've seen in waterbased necks. Mostly in the first position but along the edges in the transition area from the neck to fretboard up to the 12th fret. Seems like it is where the main contact areas of the left hand would be. Anyway it's something I have not seen in any other nitro finished neck so far.

I have three guitars with nitro over z-poxy with the same problem. Not only on the neck, but on the body on the lower bout where the players arm contacts the body. Not really visible to the naked eye, but easy enough to feel and see under low magnification...I have stopped using zpoxy as a filler because of this, switching to ca as a filler.

I am not 100% sure that it is due to the zpoxy....maybe reaction of persperation and nitro? Sure would like to know...zpoxy was nice to work with and it's grain popping abilities will be missed.
