I just used plywood cauls on the sides with tape on them, to keep the glue from sticking. Seemed to work fine.

Filippo, Robbie's video on making neck blanks shows two methods that are quick and easy.

1/8 inch dowels in the corners, the dowel in the lower left corner is hard to see because it's still in.

You must be using titebond, the slippin'est glue around.
Hide glue tacks real fast.
Of course if you are looking for perfect alignment, you'll want dowels of some sort.

somebody once showed me to do it sort of like a spanish heel, just run the whole stack through the tablesaw against the fence top to bottom with a very shallow cut in the excess, flip it and do the other side, then use a piece of sidescrap in each slot to keep things stable. I've never actually done it but it seemed to work for him...

You could just glue the blocks on one at a time. I never had a problem with them sliding.
