| Post subject: | Binding For Ziricote |
I'm looking for suggestions for binding to use with ziricote back and sides. Right now I'm thinking ebony with wbw purfling. Also are there any problems in bending ziricote? Does it need to be thinner than usual, especially in a cutaway. |

I'm working on one now with more ziricote binding and a satinwood line. I think adding some yellow/gold colors against the ziricote makes the browns more alive. All of the above suggestions, i.e koa and a slightly colored maple, would do it too. I did not have any problem bending it, it was actually more pliable than I thought it would be when it got nice and hot. I did flood the back inside and out with CA once it was close to thickness and then sanded it off just to try to catch any pre-cracks before they sprouted. I don't do that with every wood. |

Guess I'm different cause I think Koa looks very odd with Ziricote. Something about olive green/black and Golden yellow that clash to me. I've built a lot of that combo at mcpherson and I always hated it. My vote is for natural maple, or ebony. |

Indian RW that is not too purple might work too I guess. For a striking effect, I vote for curly maple. |

I'm finishing one now that has curly ash bindings and rosewood / ash purflings. The color hue of the ash matches the ziricote sapwood perfectly and ties things together nicely. Another look that I like is bindings that are cut from the side blank before it is bent, with a single maple (or ash, birch...) side purfling line. |

I used curly maple on a drednaught I made six months ago, and it went well with the ziricote. But that's just me. |
