I have a little Delta bandsaw, and recently the blade broke-Vermont America or something, standard decent quality. I just picked it up and bent it to throw away, a small chunk of it, and it broke in 2, did it with the long part of the blade and same thing. Im thinking its overheating with the 'centering' things, maybe I should replace with nylon or something? I don't think wood would heat it up that bad, but I don;t think I have ever had them 'shatter', just break, and bend normally. I smell chinese here...? I can just go down the line and break off 5" sections no problem. ![]() I sure hope the Chinese don't end up running health care. Ill have to look at the box, see where they made. |

This is due to the blade work hardening as it goes around the wheels over time. I just had to return a Verment American blade as it broke after about 20 seconds of use. This was due to improper annealing of the weld once the weld was ground flush and smoothed. I've welded a lot of blades..............the annealing (softening of the hard and brittle weld) is the hard part. Eventually though all of the blade gets work hardened and eventually breaks. It has nothing to do with the Chinese.........<G> |

I have found these blades to be very cheap. Try an olson blade or a timberwolf blade. An improperly set up bandsaw with cause blades to break prematurely also. |

Any Vermont American stuff I've tried has been pretty low quality. Made who knows where. Handyman stuff at best. |

I bought a Vermont American blade at Lowe's, never again. Even Grizzly's economy saw blades are better IMO. Rene |

When you say little Delta, what does that mean. Smaller saws will break blades more often than larger ones, because of the tight curve over the wheel. My 10" breaks them all the time. I use Lennox blades, which I can buy locally for about $9.00 made to fit the saw, and they'll re-braze if it breaks at the weld, which it always does. |

Its one of the triangular Deltas, like Kinkead has in his book. Takes a 58" blade, not sure who else makes those, but my local hardware store makes em custom, so maybe that is a better rout. |
