Years ago I used water soluable stains under polymerized tung oil on mahogany without any problems. The stains were aquired from Lee Valley. Not sure if that's much help.

You should be ok. You might want use a dewaxed shellac sealer coat over the dye. I usually seal my stains and dyes to possibly prevent bleading. But i don't think youl have a blead problem with the waterbased dyes. This is more a problem with solvent based dyes and stains.

Just a warning, aniline dyes fade...
Try Trans-tint instead.

Tony, I haven't had that experience. Mohawk aniline dyes faded on me. I have used Trans-tint on my mandolins for years and have not had a problem with fading. I find them very easy to use, whether alcohol or water base and the colors are very useful.
