Has any one used a Craftex sander either 12, 18, or 24? i am finally buying something. Also what about a metal drum versus a metal drum with velcro. Does anyone use the 'stockroom' drum sander kit? Mike |

Hi Mike, I dont have any of them, but have on good advice that the twin drum modesl are very difficult to set up propoerly .. evne the good ones. I have looked at the Craftex models, and they are fairly similar to the mid range Deltas, or Steel City stuff. the 24 is what I would go for FYI - are you coming to the Tommy Emmanuel show next week ??? .. Friday night the 21st at Dominion Chalmers chruch .. I will be there displaying some guitars (previous night we are in Montreal) ... Drop around and say Hi !!! |

I plan on buying a Stockroom Supply kit but I will be building a traditional style thickness sander in that the wood will be fed Under the drum instead of over as seen in their video. I presently own a Woodmaster drum sander that is just too big for my workshop, that's why I'm switching. It uses a velcro carrier to attach the sandpaper. It's a good system but one has to be careful not to get the velcro too hot or it will melt. It's easy to get on but it's very hard to remove. Rene |

I've always heard and read that the velcro will give an uneven surface. I don't use it. I've seen a couple of people using the grizzle sander. I think Robbie Obrian uses one . |

I use velcro backed paper on mine and wouldn't consider anything else. My sander is home made and has a 4" wooden drum that will sand a top 22" wide in a single pass. It sands very even and accurate and is easy to change paper. Ron |

I converted my Performax 16/32 to the Velcro (H&L) and will never go back to the old way. If I do anything else, It'll be upgrade to a wide belt sander. ![]() |
