Post subject:  Guild dread plans/dimensions?

Hey there, anyone know of a drawing or set of plans out there designed to mimic any Guild models? All kinds of Martin and Gibson-esque stuff out there as we all know, but I never really see anything representing the old Guilds, which were pretty darn nice too.

Or is it "take my caliper and camera to the guitar store" time...? ;)

What defining features make a Guild sound like a Guild (specifically i mean... yes I know the bracing, wood selection, etc)

Think older Guilds may have bracing that is a bit on the heavy side.Have heard it said that they are good candidates for through the sound hole scalloping. This is all hearsay on my part.

What model are you interested in? I have a 35 year old DY6BLD. It was made in R.I.

Hi Joe -

Not entirely certain of the model, I am just kinda feeling this out.. I have someone asking about a build, and I asked what their ideal guitar sounded like, which he only said that he likes Guilds... I pushed back for a specific model, so waiting on that info, but thought I would start poking around to see if this is doable.

I am sure he's not talking about one of the newer made in China ones, but will know more soon.

So how would you characterize the "Guild tone" compared to say the Martin or Taylor or Gibson tones?

I hear yeah... it might be better going for a certain model. Mine has ash sides and back so the sound is probably not typical for Guilds of the day. It is true about the heavy bracing. I did shave them down some years ago.

Here is a picture just for fun

Of course the Guilds had that (pressed? Laminated?) arched back which could be a challenge if you're getting real authentic.
