I attended the Canadian Guitar Festival last weekend and had the pleasure of spending some quality time with Don Alder one of my guitar hero's. He played my 4th and 5th builds and I was able to video him with the 4th, a Cocobolo 000, the sound is not the best as we were next to the stage and I had to crop a couple minutes off as the next band on stage was starting a sound check.

If you would like to see more of Don's skills, check out his youtube video's or his web site http://www.donalder.com/

That is just awesome Fred! Was that some Don Ross I heard near the end or was that his own stuff?

Don does his own thing mostly, but like many of the modern style pickers was influenced by Don Ross. Don Ross also performed at the festival and was great as always. Alder was 2007 Winfield fingerstyle champion and runner up in 2006.

Don Alder was involved in the Rick Hanson man in motion 2 year wheelchair trip around the world fundraiser back in the 80`s and a movie about their exploits (Heart of a Dragon) is coming to theaters in September. I am not sure if the non Canadians on the list are familiar with Rick but his foundation raises tons of cash for spinal chord research, he and Don were together in the accident that crippled Rick when they were teenagers.

Check out Rick, his life is an interesting story of strength and determination.

Rick's story really is inspirational. I was not around to witness his journey in the 80s but I can only imagine what it takes to accomplish something like that.
How was the festival? I really really really wanted to go this year but due to an ankle injury I couldn't get away. Hoping to get out there next year, I will probably be going to school in Kingston anyways.

The festival was really good and the attendance has increased quite a bit, partially I think due to getting CandyRat records on board as a partner. They have a large fabric building now so the weather was no factor, the caliber of the competition was real strong, and the main entertainers were very good.

This was my 3rd time attending and I will be back next year.
