I haven't posted a guitar here yet so thought it was time. I built this one a year or so back. It's my fifth guitar, all archtops. Specs: WRC Top; One piece quilt maple back; Curly maple and Pau Ferro neck; Pau Ferro Tailpiece and headstock overlay; Tortoise binding and herringbone purfling; Spanish cedar linings and blocks; K & K Pure Western Mini pickup. Thanks for any constructive criticism. Darrel |

Way cool Darrel! Is that sap wood on the tailpiece and headstock? I love it and also like the oval hole. |

Darrel that is one good looking guitar! ![]() ![]() ![]() That wide body shape and that soundhole just work. I think you better share with us a little more! ![]() Joe |

Darrel, that's a fine looking guitar. To me it has somewhat a steel string aesthetic (not just the soundhole, but also the peghead shape, the herringbone purfling, cedar top...). Interesting choices! And the back...how cool is that? Where did you find such a large slab of quilted maple?! Steve |

Excellent, Darryl! We need to see more archtops here. So this is your 5th? Let`s have a peek at the others. Coe |

Thanks for the comments. Darryl, that is sapwood on the Pau Ferro. Still not sure about the tailpiece, but it's easy to change if I wanted to. Steve, I got the maple from a friend of mine here who makes violins and cellos. He also buys his logs on thhe West Cost (Sitka, Engleman and Bigleaf Maple) and processes his own wood for sale. The quilt board was a happy surprise from one of his logs. He made a cello with a one piece back out of the more figured end of the board and gave me the leftover piece so he could see what it looked like on a guitar. I was happy to oblige ![]() Coe, I'll post a couple more soon. Mike. That's one of my five builds. It's an archtop, Tenor ukulele. I was inspired by Jake playing the uke and had to have one. I figured an archtop one would be fun to do. I'm currently working on two archtop basses for my wife and a good friend of mine. Keep tuned for pictures in another year or so ![]() |
