Does anybody know of a good source to get some really good Madagascar rosewood? I know Allied has some but I'm not really sure about the quality of it. It may be good? They don't really say if it's quarter sawn and stuff. It would also be good if I could see pictures of the individual sets. But I'm even having trouble finding it at all. ![]() |

Check madinter in spain! If you really need it, itll be worth the shipping. Also, their prices are fair. But didnt allied have a lot in their weekly special? edit: Allied http://www.alliedlutherie.com/images/We ... g97118.jpg |

Colby, call up Todd at Allied. Ask him all the questions. These wood guys are great to get to know. |

I have bought sides of madagascar from Allied and they were nice and quartersawn, as requested ![]() However fully quartersawn backs are very very hard to find. Madinter did post about 10 special sets recently and a small classical one was actually QS and I bought it ![]() |

I think Bob C (RC Tonewoods) has had some and I remember some of the sets being very very nice. I would give him a call as well as Allied. I don't know what the current feeling is but I see nothing wrong with making multi piece backs. Allied's fingerboards come plenty thick to resaw(LMI's are very tight). 3 matched fingerboards will give you a back and may be the only way to get quartered and/or figured back sets anymore. Sides are harder to come by but I think Vikwood sells sides separately. Otherwise, the wood Madinter had at Montreal was out of this world figured but flatsawn and it comes with a hefty shipping/tax addition. Good luck with your search! |

I didnt see any mad rose sets at madinter in Montreal, Burton (or maybe he just hadnt pulled them out yet), but madieros barber had a lot - I picked up a couple, the price (if you were displaying anyway) was quite a bit cheaper than ordering from LMI or Allied, considering the value of the Cdn dollar and no shipping, taxes in. Mostly you wont find fully quartered backs, or if you do they are very rare. Almost all of them are quartered to flat from one side of a back half to the other .. or quarter/flat/quarter as the logs are small. I have order plenty of mad rose from Allied in the past .. it is wonderful stuff. |

Isn't there a civil war or some political stuff happening in Madagascar and the export level is being lowered if not stopped? |
