My cousin is getting into luthiery (he is just finishing his first electric) and is looking at getting one of these. Anybody got any first hand experience with this model?

Maybe I'm being too specific, anyone have a 17" Grizzly?

I don't have one yet, but after ALOT of looking, this is the one i will get. Seems to have the most features for the $$. I have asked about this saw on this and other forums, and got mixed review's. Mostly good though. Obviously the 3HP is better than 2HP. Everyone said it is at least exceptable for occasional resaw. My only issue is the closest store to me is not too close, so they would have to freight ship it, and you can pick it up at the closest terminal, or semi deliver it and you have to get the beast of the truck yourself.

Thanks guys,

I've got a Grizzly 14" with riser and a 1hp motor and I can resaw ok but it's not ideal. I thought this saw should be a definite step up if it was well set up with a good blade. It looks like a good value for the price plus they're offering free shipping right now. I wish I had room for one but I'm pushing it with the one I've got.

Steve,

I can second Chris's observation. This has been a good saw for me.
If you are only re-sawing for your own use it will do just fine. If you want something for production work it is underpowered. Cecil

This will be for his own use and I'm not sure how much resawing he'll do but he pretty much builds everything from scratch and likes local woods. It's an honest obsession, our Great Granddaddy built his own violin during the depression so he'd have something to play (I've still got it).

I have this exact bandsaw from Grizzly. I really like it. I can resaw lumber into guitar wood with it and use it for everything under the sun. Since I got it, I have been using it on 110V but have recently moved to a new house and will now be able to convert it to 220V (super simple). I wish I could be more critical, but while I have used other bandsaws, this is the first bandsaw I have owned. Seems to be a well thought out tool, and the resaw fence is a nice bonus. Some of my other tools gave glaring flaws.. this one does not seem to, although foot brake would have been nice.. Regardless, I'm pretty darn happy with it and would recommend it. Regards, Peter

Thanks for the info - he has it on order and plans to run a 220V circuit for it.
