Just finished up #4, and figured I'd pop up a couple of pics. Picked up the body woods and bridge at the Martin Factory when I went for a tour. Really need to say thanks to Gail, as she helped me pick through the piles of back and sides, until I found a set I wanted. If you take the time to pick through everything there, you can find some great stuff. Got 2 Pau Ferro bridges that were rejected because 1 wing was thinner than the other. I measured about .010" difference. Works for me!

Back and sides are Sapele
Top sitka, the rosette I can't take credit for, as it was done by the folks at the Martin factory.
Bridge, fingerboard, and headplate are all Pau Ferro
Tortise shell binding
Gotoh open back tuners.
Finish is EM 6000, brushed

Don't mind the warts, I won't make those stupid mistakes again!!

Good looking guitar Rob!
Wish I was close to the Martin store. Looks like some nice woods.

I am seeing a nice blend of modern and traditional. I like it.

Really nice job

WHat did you use for the finish? Did you do the cutaway with bender/jig or by hand? Great job

Thanks for the replies guys.

Rich, the finish is Target's Emtech 6000. I bent the non-cutaway side, and the waist and lower bout of the other in my Fox bender, and did the cutaway on a pipe.

I like the way the finish looks. [:Y:] How did the EM6000 work out for you? Was it your first time to use it? I've got a gallon sitting here screaming to be used. How many brush applications did you apply and did you have to thin it before hand?

Nice, me like it. I've been thinking about doing some herringbone [:Y:] :)

Bill, this is the second time I've used the EM 6000, and I really like it.As far as thinning, I use 15% of Targets reducer. It brushes on pretty well. I put 3 coats, level, 3 more, level again, then I think I finished up with another 4 for good measure. I've got one small spot of sand through on the back that I just noticed the other day.

Chris, the herringbone wasn't too bad. I took Michaels recommendation and bent it by running it through my fingers. Might try the pipe if I do it again. One of the warts on this one is a spot where I cracked the purfling while bending.
