I stopped at a lumber store up north this weekend to look for some wood for some electric bass necks and ended picking up some sweet zoot for acoustics as well. I spent this evening giving my bandsaw a workout. This is the first somewhat major resawing Ive done and thought I'd do a little show and tell. Zoot pics are always fun to look at.

Board #1 is a chunk of 8/4 fairly well quartered Coco with a really nice dark color and stripes. Out of this board I got one 6-string bass FB, four FBs, nine BB and eight HP/rosette pieces.

Board #2 is African Blackwood. Very little checking on one end. One side is very well quartered. I got three FBs out of that side and material for probably 10 BBs. I may loose a few to the checks on the end. This stuff rings like a bell.

Board #3 is a small piece of Ziricote I resawed into two FBs.

The total material cost for all this was just $103! :o plus tax.

Other than the zoot score, I'm happy that I chopped the Coco up into 22 pieces and didn't break out in a rash. Mask, vacuum and air filter were on the entire time though. Second is that my adequate but nothing fancy Grizzley 0555 bandsaw with Timberwolf 3/4" AS-S blade did a great job. I was anticipating dulling a blade for the cause, but she's still sharp.

Now for some zoot porn:

That's a good score Zach. That African Blackwood is some really special stuff. I have just a tad of it in my stash and nothing I have sounds like it does when you drop it.

Ahhhh, no...its um some no name guy that lives in a van down by the river...or something. :) They do have another store the south of me instead of north of me that I want to check out. I'm going to buy as much of this as i can. Most of the blackwood and coco was too small for FBs. I may have just got lucky.

The center blackwood FB has a small knot that is almost closed on one of the sides that may have to be filled in a tad. I guess this is common on this stuff even on high grade boards. It shows up on one of the other ones as well, but only on one side. The only place I see selling these right now is Gilmer as a staggering $50 per. I think that is what LMII was at before they pulled pricing.

I have 3 FBs and 9-10 BB. So that means I need to find 6-7 more FBs, or at least thats what my zoot shakes are telling me.

I'm humbled to get a complement from such a great builder.

Heres a bigger version. I try taking some artsy type pics as I build. This one just seems to work and it became my desktop. Black Limba with Curly Sitka top. I'll get this one done one of these days if work and housework ever permit.
