Dave, I'm in complete agreement with you on Madagascar RW, it's a great tonewood and very close tonally and visually to BRW. There is another great alternative and that's Amazon RW. I bought a couple of sets from Todd Taggert (Allied Lutherie) a couple of years ago and will be bringing an Amazon/Lutz OM to Healdsburg next month. I think this may be my go to BRW substiute. Lovely under finish, works beautifully, and tonally very similar to Brazilian. Todd seems to have a pretty good supply of it, and it's reasonably priced. The stuff I have appears to be a little darker than the sets he currently has listed, but I'm sure it's all good stuff. |

Wow, my post gets a whole thread in response! Hi Jimmy. What I like about Amazon RW is that it smells very much like BRW, that alone could be the break-over point in preference. |

David, Wasn't intentional. After I posted it and discovered what I'd done, I went back and renamed it so it would make sense. |
