Hi all. A while back I wrote that I had found a friend of my fathers who had happen to have some wood that had been laying around for some time. I went there and bought some of it. Got some nice Cedar boards, Sapele, African and Honaduran mahogany also a smaller piece of Purpleheart that will be good for bindings etc. most are 1.5" thick. As you can see on the photos I have already started on making a guitar from it also made a new bending machine for a new guitar design.
the neck is made ala´cumpianos book "using 3 pieces" was a bit more work than to just cut it from a 3" by 4" but it was lots of fun though . did the kerfed linings and everything from the wood I bought. can be happier than this. (well perhaps if I found a stash of Brazilian maby) .

cool stuff. do you build a bender for each style of body you make? and i have been seeing some good thick boards around like yours for cheap. only thing holding me back is how to get them resawn. short of knowing some people in the lumber business(which i may actually) to cut boards into bookmatched sets is there any at home way to do this? something simple im just overlooking.

Looking great there, Lars. I like your neck a lot. I need to make a new form also. I've made three, but my granddaughter wants a guitar and she is very young and very small, so I'm going to build a 3/4 size parlor for her.

Paul. you will need an ok bandsaw, something that will be able to resaw atleast 8"+ in height I would say. I dont think there is an easier way to go around it than that.
Also , Yes, so far I do make a new bender for each style. works great and takes only a few huers to do.

Lillian. it a new design I did in Illustrator. I cant wait to put it together. Great feeling to be able to make the guitar from a-z with my own pile of wood .

Ron, I can see the smile on your granddaughter allready. What a wonderful gift to give, something made by 2 hands ! A bit different from nowadays where all things come from factorys, labeled "made in china". .

Joe, Bill. It sure starts to look like a woodshop now hehe. still need a few more tools though, nut files, etc mostly tools for setup. seems like it will never end.

Keep an eye on ebay for nut files. I see them from time to time at really great prices. I got a brand new complete set of Stew Mac nut files from a guy that bought them because he thought he was going to make a new nut for his guitar and never did. I only paid about half the retail price including shipping. Talk to you later my friend.
