Can someone explain to me the connection between these brands? I know they have some close relation. There are some small differences between roughly equivalent machinery. Is Shop Fox in some way lower quality? Or is it just the machinery that Grizzly wholesales to other dealers? I'm looking specifically at the cyclone dust collectors and wide belt sanders. Thanks! |

I know shopfox is sold by other vendors besides grizzly. I think the similarities are because its probably made by the same asian manufacturer. The link below is of woodstock international who is either the manufactuer or the wholesaler. So are they seperate from grizzly or are they owned by the same person? I have noticed they also have a distribution center located here in pennsylvania close to the grizzly warehouse here and their headquarters are in Bellingham, WA the same as grizzlys. So i think they are one and the same. My belief is that they created a brand name to branch out from the grizzly direct marketing method. Some people are still weary of buying stuff direct like this and want to see what they but in an actual store. So does this answer your question? Probably not! One way to find out is to ask Shiraz the owner of Grizzly. He is quite personable and also a luthier.  He is an active participant on the Sawmill Creek forum. As far as whether or not they are both owned by Shiraz, I suspect so but don't know for sure. I can say that I own both Shop Fox and Grizzly products and am extremely satisfied with both. As mike mentioned it is likely it's just their retail store brand.

I'm 98% sure they are one in the same. My brother has a ShopFox cabinet saw and I have a Grizzly and they are identical except for the paint and cosmetics. Just visit your local Sears store and look at Kenmore and Whirlpool appliances. Same innards, different name BUT same OEM. |

The 2 companies are owned by the same people. The Shop fox is a higher grade with upgraded motors and bearings |

I've been told the same thing...that Shop Fox is slightly better motor, bearings, etc. |
