Hello, so I just constructed my shooting board, all that's left to do is to buy high friction tape to install at the feet, so it doesn't slip. Then the idea popped up - what if I put a couple of stripes on my workbench and put my top plates/back plates/sides on top. Would the friction be enough to keep the plates from slipping away when planing them down to thickness? This would be pretty awesome as I wouldn't need any stops or clamps. I've never planed a top/back before and have always wondered about the best way to keep those thin plates in place. Does anyone have experience with using high friction tape? Hi I see the product makes mention of silicone rubber, could this become an issue down the line with your finish schedule? I have seen mention of contamination being a problem in past posts. Not saying this will happen, just something to consider perhaps regards Philip |

I use that tape on muy homemade brace radiussing jig .. the stickum is good, but it still moves after awhile - I needed to lift my centre stop and run the tape underneath it to get it to stop sliding around. My shooting jig cost about ten bucks to make .. its pretty simple clamps .. couple t-nuts under neath a piece of ply bug enough to hold your plates at one edge, and then a clamp above the edge that has threaded knobs into the t-nuts .. holds really tight. sorry I dont have any pix of it .... |
