Post subject:  What cutters do you use?

hi all
I have ordered a Virutex Laminate Trimmer with a 1/4 inch collet and was wondering what sizes and shaped cutters are most commonly used in guitar making, dovetailed necks, binding, rosette, end graft, head shaping and anything else I’ve missed.

for 1/4 inch .. 1/4, 3/16 adn 1/8 downcut spirals, solid carbide, as well, 1/4 bull nose, i use both a 2 flute carbide and a 4 flute end mill. If you dont have a specific binding setup, you may also need one of the binding cutter sets form either stew mac of LMI

get a 1/4 to 1.8 adapter, and then you can use a host of 1/8 inch shank bits too .. like the smaller 1/16 and 3/64 for inlay (although i now much prefer the mini die grinder air powered for that.

Many thanks Tony
I'll see if they do an 1/4 to 1/8 adaptor.
What about dovetail bits, size/angle?

You'll have alot better luck cutting dovetails with a bigger router, and a bit with a 1/2" shank.
I use a Porter Cable 7518 router with a 5/8" template guide and a CMT 818.658.11 dovetail bit. The bit has a 1/2" and is 5/8" diameter with a 7 degree angle. I'm sure other stuff works too.
