My top is less than attractive to me so I'm thinking of a sunburst. Anyone done this and if so, how did the combination look after you finished. Was it too much to be a balanced look? ![]() |

Hi Richard, I've got two in the shop right now--Cocobolo w/ a sunburst top. (Burst on top only.) One set was quite dark, very "Brazilian-esque" in appearance, and we matched the browns of the sides in the dark part of the burst. Tobacco burst, if you will. The second set is of an outrageous red/orage Cocobolo that we tried to match with an orang-ish burst on the top. Lighter than the first one. If I can find pix, I'll post 'em. But to my eye, they look just fine, and there's nothing to fear about the combination. Steve |

Ok, here's one I found. It's the red Coco w/ an orangish-to-light brown burst which doesn't show quite true in this pic, but you can get the idea. Attachment: A 102.jpg And the top: Attachment: A 103.jpg I'll poke around for some more shots... Hope this helps, Steve Here's a closeup of the rosette, which is a truer sample of the color: Attachment: A 104.jpg Steve |

Hi Richard, here's another one. Not the instrument I was thinking of, but one done last year. It turns out that every Cocobolo guitar we've done lately has a 'burst top. (Must make Colin roll his eyes....) First the back: Attachment: Coco Back 2 Sm.jpg And then the top: Attachment: Coco top 2 Sm.jpg Attachment: Coco top 3 Sm.jpg Steve |

Dave, you would have to ask that this weekend! Driving into town this evening, c. 5:30 p.m., temp read 103. I think that's either 39 or 40 degrees to you cool weather blokes. Hot enough to break out the hide glue. Thanks for the kind words! Steve |

Steve, great sunbursts! I particularly like the second (coco top 2), which would be just the ticket on an L5 replica I'm considering. Could you share the blend recipe(s)?? |

Thanks Dave, wish I could share the recipe. What I can do is tell you the name of the fellow who sprayed that for me: Tony Ferguson. Everything he does impresses me. Steve |
