Post subject: | More Oil Finish Question |
As a follow up to the fuzzy neck thread I just had a client in the shop today that is a woodworker. We were talking oil finishes as he wants one on his guitar neck. He has had great results with Sam Maloff's poly/oil finish on his furniture. Says it's durable. http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page ... ct=Details Anyone used this stuff? Terry |

Fine Woodworking looked at wipe on finishes in August 2005. They didn't test durability, but isn't any poly going to be pretty tough? The Maloof stuff wasn't their favorite. It was thick and sticky making it hard to wipe on and harder to wipe off the excess. It also dried slowly. They did a test for water protection and it rated good but not excellent. Of course the formulation may have changed in the last 4 years. We had a few students in class use the Minwax Wipe-On-Poly (FWW winner) to finish guitars. It looked ok and they all said it was easy to work with. |
