Those of you who have seen my old headstocks will remember that I always inlayed the 3-dot triangle. Since I have gone to the signature logo, I want to now carry the logo to the 12th fret. Rex came up with the idea of using metal as the inlay material. We chose copper to go with the copper side dots that I now use.

Check it out.

Rex is a personal friend and joy to work with. I highly recommend his work to anyone who wants something a little different from the standard MOP, Paua and Recon Stone. His background as a registered jeweler gives him a unique niche in his approach to inlay possibilities. Here are some of his personally inspired TR covers that he did on his own. Having just returned from ASIA, he can't stop talking about how inspiring it was to meet and absorb info from Grit Laskin, Craig Lavin and other inlay experts.

Nice looking 12th fret inlay!

I have to agree with JJ about Rex; He is a very nice guy to deal with and I believe he is going really do good in the inlay business;

He has already inlaid a couple of headplates for me and I am sending him a couple more for a signature inlay after he returned very inspired from his ASIA trip;
Give Rex a chance if you need inlay... I don't believe you will be disappointed.

regards,
jack

Love the simplicity and the clean lines. The metal is a different twist - I really like it! [clap] [clap] [clap]

Nice, tight work! Looks good JJ.
Let us know how the copper fares as side dots.
I've used brass, but it would always turn green under the lacquer. Perhaps not the problem w/ copper?

Steve...I used the copper dots for the first time in bloodwood binding on the recent 12 string and it has fared quite well under Cat. Polyester. I just inserted them on an ebony bound FB and they contrast nicely against the black.

The copper that Rex used obviously oxidizes but still has a unique appearance...and it gets lustrous after routine FB cleaning...for awhile anyway.
