Post subject:  Case for OLF-MJ
I'm about to start an OLF-MJ build and was wondering if anyone has found a source for ready made cases that fit? Not looking for expensive custom case but something that is reasonably solid for carting around to local gigs. I did try a forum search but didn't find anything.Thanks for your time.

I got an Ibanez case that fit the one I made great. Must be a jumbo size.

Thanks for the info guys. Since I now know that Ibanez has a case that fits, I'll wait till I'm finished and take it to a few stores to try out jumbo cases. In case I have no luck, I saved the address you provided Michael. Thanks to both of you!

If the outline of the OLF plan is close to the Martin J/M body shape, the Canada case small Jumbo, that's the same as TKLis available out of Toronto for a very reasonable price. Check with Garry Gauger at Heinl violins in Toronto.

I have used 2 of these cases, one for a J and one for my J style wedge. I also have a OM/000 and a D case. The double arch case is real solid.

Not at all close to a Martin jumbo in shape or dimensions

I do not know about the Ibenze jumbo case but I really doubt that you will find one with the waist in the correct location or even close to the right shape. This is an important area to properly fit if you travel with this guitar at all. When I designed this guitar, it was not patterned off of any existing body shape. It has a very small waist radius and a very thin narrow distance between waist radii, exspesially for the big body guitar.

Well, I think the criteria was 'not an expensive custom made case'...so, in that light, I think Fred is right on the money. The TKL dread case fits the SJ beautifully.... Contact Garry and he'll set you up. You can also get it in a very sweet tweed exterior that just screams '60's fender amps!

The waist might not be as snug as a bug, but the TKL is a very robust case, and if you manage to crush your guitar inside of it, the waist fit is going to be the last of your worries...

Thanks Fred and Alain for the info on TKL. What a wonderful place to gather knowledge and learn from others experiences. I have all the info filed and will post what the best solution, for my application was when I am finished. Hopefully by Christmas this year!!!

I've got an OLF SJ and the TKL case fits perfectly. TKL makes 3 grades of cases I believe, mine is the top of the line double arched which makes it plenty robust and it is a heck of lot lighter than the Ameritage. If I were touring or the guitar were subjected to a lot of tossling I'd go with the Ameritage.

Kevin Ryan uses TKL for his guitars....if it's good enough for a Ryan it is plenty good enough for me.

I guess my spelling needs help. I have had good luck with Gary and the made in Quebec cases he sells. I also prefer the double arch with tweed covering. I have a who's who of modern fingerstyle guitarist's autographs on my cases.

Actually what he asked about was a ready made case to fit the “MJ” not the SJ, and that is what I replied about. There are several cases that fit the SJ good enough I guess.

That said I can’t see how one would think a dreadnaught case fit an OLF SJ beautifully. The shape of an SJ is closer to a J165 than a dreadnaught, the depth of the SJ body is slightly shallower than a dreadnaught, the lower bout of the OLF SJ is much more rounded and ½” narrower than a dreadnaught. But then again wee all look at thing differently.

Just my personal opinion what ever case you put a specific guitar in it should hold the body and neck truly stable in all planes if shook or impacted. Less than that and you might as well use a chip board case.

back to the MJ I know of no stock case that fits the MJ well enough that I would travel any where with it other than a custom fitted. When I developed this guitar that was not a concern for me as Ameritage was already my standard case supplied with all my instruments.
