My favorites are: light - curly maple ... it looks great (so much so one of my students cloned one I had in the shop), I used a blk/orange/blk purf line all round for definition, very sweet. No backstrip on either. dark - brw, amazon rw(just got some , looks pretty good), ziricote or ebony. |

I used Bloodwood binding on an all Koa 000 a while back. I used black/Koa/black purfling. I'll try to find some pics. |

I've used both curly maple and EIR. Both looked good, but I think that I prefer the looks of the darker rosewood. |

I'm using ebony, with bwb purfling - and a laminated mahogany neck with two ebony strips down the middle. Green abalone rosette - will likely use some green in the headstock and green abalone fret markers. |

Peter, that is an awesome guitar. I am starting one soon that will be all Accacia (not sure of the spelling. Undertsand it is similar or same as KOA. Any advice for soundboard thickness and changes to bracing for soundboard - taller???? Thanks. |

Rich, I would assume black Acacia would be about the same as Koa but mine is a double top (Koa/Port Orford) so I can't really comment on soundboard thickness. From what I hear, .125" +- is about what average. |

I used Peruvian walnut for bindings, heel graft, and head stock veneer on my recent Cherry build. The Cherry was a fairly dark color -- almost Koa or Mahogany color.... Peruvian walnut is *Easy* to work... Cuts and works like butter... Easy to bend... Easy to glue.... Easy to sand... And... Cheap to buy in clear boards large enough to cut bindings out of. I love the stuff... All the way around. Good luck John |
